The Process

Each group will have a specific area to research.  The areas will be signed up for on a first-come first-serve basis.  Each group will have a set of concepts that must be researched and presented.  The use of references will not be limited to your textbooks; internet, movies, outside books can also be used.

Class procedures (everyone will follow these):

  1. First you'll be assigned to a team of 4 students...
  2. Each group will discuss for several minutes on which area they want to concentrate on.
  3. Each group will sign up for any context area that is still available, as well as a date to present on.

Individual group procedures (click on your appropriate group):

Group 1: Architecture

Group 2: Military

Group 3: Religion

Group 4: Politics

Group 5: Culture- economy

Group 6: Culture- art

Each group will be responsible for the process standards within their link.  Each group has been given individual websites that will help them get started.  *Note: Every group is not restricted to the start-up websites that I have provided.  Also, there are addition resources that I have in forms of books that the class may use within the classroom itself. There will be time to work on the assignment in class.  Yet, because the end result that is required I urge the groups to work outside of class as well.  Remember, the final assignment (essay paper) hinges in the individual groups doing their required work.

At the end of your studies, your group will give a presentation to the class.  This presentation will need to be at least 10 minutes long, but no longer than 30 minutes.  Every group member will need to present some information to the class.  The criteria for the presentation is detailed on the evaluation page.  Groups are not required for any special type of presentation, they must answer the required questions within their section.  The group will also need record the resources they have onto a bibliography/works cited page (only one per group needs to be turned in with every students name.

There is also a individual grade for each student as you will complete a 2-3 page paper over all of the information that is presented (that means each student must listen to each group in order to write their paper).  The grading rubric is on the evaluation page.

Helpful hints for the procedures: each group can divide up the area on the basis of questions needing to be answered.  Then the groups can concentrate on one area before coming together to form a group statement in the form of their presentation.  When the presentation is being devised each group needs to decide on the best way to present the material (* each group should research their topic before deciding on a presentation scheme).  A reminder that the presentation can be in the form of a video, webpage, Power-Point, or an activity.  The use of technology is encouraged, the use of lectures is not.

Feel free to ask for any help or assistance that I can give each group.
